Chine collé is a technique to add subtle background colour to an intaglio print. You can also add colour elements with washes or pencils or inkjet printing to the Japanese paper used for the chine collé technique. You can choose to do an inkjet chine collé layer if you have a digital image which you will use to make your photopolymer plate. Or you can add colour onto the Japanese paper using colour pencils, watercolour or other media. The addition of gold leaf to the chine collé paper gives luster as well as colour.
