     10:00 am - 5:00 pm

In this workshop you will create a postcard-sized concertina book with 10-12 pages, using archival glue with a sturdy black paper concertina book structure. It can be horizontal or vertical in format.

Plunder your archive of photographs in the old shoe-box and in a quiet time select and sort into themes. From one of your series of photographs (family, architectural details, great aunty’s 1950s home, travel or garden or anything that creates an interesting visual narrative) you will make a unique small folded book. If you don’t have a box of photographs, print some of your digital photos after you have sorted them into collections or albums. Bring 15-20 photographs with you, and if you print digital photographs print no smaller than 10.5 x 14.5 cm. Please print them on thick photo-quality paper, or have them printed at a photo shop.

Or you can used drawings or collages to create your pages. Bring 15-20 drawings with you, no smaller than 10.5 x 14.5 cm. For your first books you can cut the images to size, from larger drawings or prints, creating amazing details.

Bring either all horizontal or all vertical images (see books above). You will be given a firm paper strip to fold, and shown how to carefully trim/crop your photos. After composing the arrangement of your collection of images you will be shown how to paste them into the concertina structure. Your books will be pressed to flatten and dry.

We will discuss how to create the front cover of the book. A photo can be digitised and title text added. Or you can make a hand-made cover title image. The possibilities are endless!

These postcard-sized books make wonderful gifts and are a terrific way to enjoy and share your drawings and photographs.

This is a workshop for anyone wanting to use their analogue or digital photographs to create unique books, no previous experience necessary. And to create a visual narrative out of a series of drawings or prints.
